Chapter 396 Kill Someone for Me
"*&;*#!" "%#@#!"
Joey's first knock on the door ended in failure; the creatures inside the spaceship were either disoriented or making a huge racket.
He could only increase the force and thump, thump, thump!
With this strike, the immense force caused slight deformation to the metal of the spaceship's exterior, producing a harsh, fatigued metallic sound as it struggled to withstand the strain.
"Did you hear that?"
The ship's alarm finally caught Star-Lord's attention.
He reached out and pinched the rocket's pointed nozzle, temporarily silencing it. Following the direction of the sound, he saw a person in red robes and blue armor floating in the vacuum outside the spaceship.
Star-Lord rubbed his eyes with his free hand.
Superman continued to knock on the glass outside the window.
Star-Lord rubbed his eyes in disbelief again and asked Rocket, "Rocket, can lack of oxygen cause hallucinations? Or are we about to die?"
If he were truly in the pre-death flashback phase, Star-Lord would still feel that he would rather see his mother than Superman, whom he had only known for a few days.
Rocket broke free from Star-Lord's grasp: "You're about to be killed by me!"
"I am Groot!"
Groot, who didn't need oxygen at all, was clearer-headed than anyone else. He simply used a branch to lift Rocket, who was already furious and wanted to bite Star-Lord with his sharp teeth, and dragged him to the window.
"Superman!?"
Rocket finally stopped trying to inquire about Star-Lord's family tree: "Thanks—Quill, we're going to live that coconut biscuit stuff from your side!"
After towing Star-Lord's powerless ship to safety, Joey climbed into the cockpit and looked at the crew, exhausted and looking like dead dogs from lack of oxygen. He asked curiously, "What mission are you guys on this time? Isn't that vibranium meteorite I gave you enough for your retirement?"
"How dare you say that!"
It would have been better if he hadn't brought it up, because the moment it was mentioned, Rocket was immediately ignited again: "Do you know how many asteroids are in that area?"
Superman brought them an entire asteroid containing vibranium as a reward, but the aftermath of his battle with Captain Marvel completely disrupted everything.
That area was originally under the control of the Nova Empire, and Rocket and his group, who had been pardoned and released from prison, had to leave as soon as possible. They simply couldn't go out of their way to find the location of the vibranium ore.
So that entire vibranium asteroid became a huge fortune that existed in everyone's hearts but could never be realized.
After a major overhaul of the spaceship, the crew, now strapped for cash, could only take on odd jobs, such as transporting illicit goods through dangerous areas.
"They say you should do a good deed to the end," Rocket, now out of danger, had money on his mind again. He grabbed Joey's cloak and rolled around on the ground, yelling, "I don't care! You gave me that thing, you have to steal it from Nova Corps territory!"
With lightning-fast reflexes, Joey yanked the cloak out of Rocket's grasp: "Don't wipe your snot on me!"
If it weren't for the fact that this raccoon was still relatively fluffy, Joey would have kicked it out of the cabin long ago.
"And what brings you here?" This wasn't the first time Superman had come to his rescue. He suddenly remembered a story his mother had told him when he was a child: "OMG~ Are you my guardian angel?!"
"Get out!" Even at this point, Star-Lord, who was still acting recklessly, was kicked out of the spaceship by Joey.
Then he landed on his buttocks in a "sandslide" motion, and was in so much pain that he couldn't stand up for a long time: "Ouch, Gamora, come help me! I think I broke my tailbone!"
"Go to hell!"
Gamora immediately kicked Star-Lord in the chest, knocking him to the ground.
Star-Lord, who had fallen flat on his back, clicked his tongue and said, "Too bad I'm not wearing a dress today~"
"Are you looking for death?!"
As a notorious assassin across the universe, Gamora's senses were incredibly sharp. Enraged by these words, she raised her high heels and delivered a fatal triple strike—
"No, no, no—I'm going to die, I'm going to die!"
Both Star-Lord I and Star-Lord II paid the price for their earlier trash talk.
Seeing this, Joey couldn't help but sigh that people's joys and sorrows are truly impossible to share.
While people on Earth are worrying about the impending cataclysmic disaster, the Guardians of the Galaxy on the other side of the universe are still able to joke around, spewing off scatological humor and dirty jokes.
As for Rocket's idea of having Joey drag back that vibranium asteroid, there was no way he'd be interested. He was in a hurry to find out exactly where Vormir, the planet containing the Soul Stone, was located.
"Vormir?"
Gamora, who was beating up both Star-Lord and Star-Lord, turned around alertly upon hearing the name of the place, even stopping her stomping on Star-Lord.
As Thanos's daughter, she also took on the task of finding the Infinity Stones. To this end, she collected many legends and secrets from the universe, and the whereabouts of the Soul Stone was one of them.
It was a bundle of tattered ancient scrolls that recorded the location of the Soul Stone as the planet Vormir, and even specified the planet's relative position.
"You are searching for the Soul Stone."
Even though she knew Superman had come for the Power Stone, Gamora only now realized that his ultimate goal was the same as Thanos': to collect all six Infinity Stones. This made Gamora wary: "How many are you missing? What do you need six stones for?"
Superman may seem like a good guy, but driven by his own ambition and excessively pursuing power, he may eventually lose himself in that power and unleash his true self.
"I'm almost done, just two more to go."
Having already obtained four of the Infinity Stones, Joey didn't have much to tell Gamora. He could only skip over the cause of the matter and tell her the ultimate goal: "Only when all six stones are gathered can the entire universe be saved."
"No, buddy, that's the worst excuse we can ever hear!"
Rocket groaned at such lofty replies: "What if you said you'd use those six stones to rule the world?!"
No matter what kind of work it is, a villain who pursues wealth and power is not so scary.
What's scary is when some villains keep talking about "curing this filthy world" or "saving all life in the universe." These kinds of people often manage to do something that ruins the whole world at the end of the story.
Rocket knew Gamora's personality; if Superman answered that way, she would never tell him the location of Vormir.
"I can tell you the location of Vormir right now, it's right here—"
"What? Are you crazy?"
Rocket shrugged incredulously: "You just told him that directly? You'd have to charge him at least tens of millions, right?"
Gamora hesitated for only two seconds before making up her mind—to hell with universal peace, whether the Infinity Stones are all together or not is none of my business.
Superman has already obtained four Infinity Stones, and it's only a matter of time before he gets the other two. Rather than keeping this secret to himself, he might as well go with the flow and do someone a favor.
"but,"
Gamora now needs Superman to fulfill this favor. Who possesses the Infinity Stones is unimportant to her, but the life or death of one person is crucial: "You are very powerful; kill someone for me."
