Chapter 117 OTK
Chapter 117 OTK
When Yu Heng arrived home, no one was in the living room.
He changed into slippers and said, "I'm back."
Bai Xinran peeked out from the kitchen, holding a spoon in her hand.
"You're back," she said. "Was training tiring?"
"It's alright." Yu Heng walked to the sofa and sat down.
Bai Xinran came out of the kitchen, wearing a light blue apron: "Would you like some water?"
"Mmm," Yu Heng responded with his eyes closed.
Bai Xinran poured a glass of warm water and handed it over.
Yu Heng took the drink, his Adam's apple bobbing, and took a large gulp: "What are we having for dinner?"
"I cooked porridge," Bai Xinran said, "and steamed some frozen buns."
"Okay." Yu Heng put the cup back on the coffee table.
Bai Xinran watched him turn his neck, the bones making a slight cracking sound. She pursed her lips and said, "Would you like to take a shower first?"
"Okay." He stood up. "Oh, right."
Bai Xinran was looking at his back when he suddenly turned around, startling her for a moment.
"Remember to prepare the tools," Yu Heng said. "We'll need them after dinner."
Bai Xinran's ears felt a little hot, and she nodded: "I understand."
Yu Heng went into the bathroom, and Bai Xinran stood there for a few seconds before turning around and returning to the kitchen.
The porridge was bubbling in the pot. She stirred it with a spoon and turned the heat down to low.
The steamed buns are ready in the steamer; steam is seeping out from the edge of the lid.
She took off her apron and hung it back on the hook on the wall.
Then he left the kitchen and went upstairs.
Yu Heng placed the small suitcase in the study on the second floor last week, saying it would be convenient to access.
The study is usually unused; it just has a table and a chair, and a few cardboard boxes piled up in the corner, which were leftovers from the previous move.
The suitcase was right next to the table.
Bai Xinran squatted down and opened the box.
There weren't many things inside, but they were arranged very neatly.
There were a few small boxes next to her, which she had never opened and did not know what was inside.
She then closed the suitcase, took her things, and went downstairs.
Downstairs, in the living room.
After dinner, the two of them sat down on the sofa.
Yu Heng turned on the TV and put on a drama series. The volume was low, just enough to be heard.
It doesn't really matter what I play, and I won't actually look at it anyway. It's just background noise to avoid making her feel awkward.
-
Qin Ya was live-streaming on the second floor, and the chat was buzzing with comments. She took advantage of a break after finishing one topic to reach for the water glass on the table.
There was only a tiny bit of water left in the cup.
She frowned, drank it all in one gulp, and felt even thirstier.
"Wait for me, everyone, I'm going to get some water, I'm so thirsty," she said into the microphone, switching the live stream to a waiting animation.
Pushing open the door, I could faintly hear the sound of a television playing in the living room downstairs, showing some show I couldn't quite place.
Qin Ya didn't pay any attention and shuffled downstairs in her slippers.
The kitchen is on the first floor, and you have to walk through the living room to get to it.
She stopped halfway down the stairs.
The main lights in the living room weren't on; only a floor lamp next to the sofa was lit.
She saw shadowy figures on the sofa, the light from the television screen reflecting off them.
Qin Ya stood on the stairs and subconsciously grabbed the handrail. Her mind went blank for a moment. What was she doing?
Their voices were not loud, and it was difficult to hear the specifics.
All that could be heard was the sound of counting.
Qin Ya felt her face burning and her heart pounding wildly.
Then it dawned on me that it was inappropriate for me to be standing there peeking; what if I got caught...?
She carefully took a step back, then another.
Only after retreating to the corner of the stairs and confirming that the people below could no longer see him did he let out a soft sigh of relief.
She didn't want to get any more water, so she quietly turned around and went upstairs to her room, where she gently closed the door.
Putting her headphones back on, Qin Ya took a few deep breaths to make her voice sound normal: "Coming, coming, let's continue!"
As she spoke, she picked up her phone again and sent a WeChat message to Qin Lu.
"Mom, don't come to pick me up. I'll stay here tonight."
My phone vibrated shortly after I sent the message.
Qin Lu: "?"
Qin Ya pouted and tapped her fingers on the screen: "I'm a little tired, I don't want to bother anymore. Come pick me up tomorrow night."
This time I waited a few minutes.
Qin Lu: "Okay, then go to bed early and don't stay up late."
"Okay."
-
After things were finished downstairs, Bai Xinran remained lying down, and Yu Heng was massaging her.
"Does it still hurt?" Yu Heng asked, his voice coming down from above her head.
"It hurts," Bai Xinran said muffledly, "but it's much better."
Yu Heng chuckled softly: "If it hurts, just say it hurts. No one's going to laugh at you."
Bai Xinran didn't say anything. It wasn't that she was afraid of being laughed at, but she felt that saying it hurt was a bit pretentious.
"Then let me help you distract yourself," Yu Heng said.
"Hmm?" Bai Xinran whimpered, arching her body and grabbing Yu Heng's arm, her body tense.
After a while, Bai Xinran's breathing became more stable.
"Does it still hurt?" he asked again.
"It doesn't hurt anymore..." Bai Xinran whispered.
"This is a necessary process in a game, and it needs to be complete to have a good experience."
"Um?"
"If everything is vague, neither strict nor reassuring, then you won't actually experience anything."
"I think I understand a little."
Yu Heng hummed in agreement, then suddenly said, "The finals are the day after tomorrow."
Bai Xinran hummed in agreement.
"Are you here to see?" Yu Heng asked.
"Come on," Bai Xinran said, pausing for a moment, "You'll win, won't you?"
"I don't know," Yu Heng said. "I'll try my best."
Yu Heng patted her waist: "Get up, it's time to sleep."
Bai Xinran climbed out of his arms, her legs still weak, and she almost fell back down. Yu Heng helped her up.
-
Qin Ya ended her broadcast at 10 PM, having broadcast for an extra hour today.
A guy watched a short video and said it was like a gift in advance for the new skin. To express her gratitude, she played an extra episode.
She took off her headphones, stretched, and felt a slight soreness in her neck.
The computer screen was still lit, and the background data curve was slowly climbing.
The reason she didn't ask Qin Lu to pick her up wasn't because she was tired.
Live streaming is a bit mentally taxing, but it's not that bad yet.
She just... doesn't want to go back.
She wanted to see if there would be any more exciting programs tonight.
Qin Ya walked to the door and then to the top of the stairs to listen.
It's quiet downstairs; the TV is off too.
She tiptoed down the railing and looked down. The living room on the first floor was completely dark, with only a small nightlight in the entryway casting a dim yellow glow.
Have they all gone back inside?
She was a little disappointed, but also felt it was only natural, since it was already past ten o'clock.
The image of the sofa popped into her mind again. She swallowed hard and tiptoed downstairs.
The kitchen light was motion-activated; it turned on as soon as she entered.
She opened the refrigerator door, and a blast of cold air rushed out. She grabbed a bottle of mineral water, unscrewed the cap, and took a couple of sips.
The water was icy cold, and as it flowed down my throat, it cleared my head a bit.
She stood in the kitchen, holding a water bottle, her ears perked up, listening to the sounds outside.
There was no sound at all.
I waited in the living room until almost midnight, but I didn't hear any noise, so I reluctantly went upstairs to sleep.
