Chapter 159 The Runaway Puppy
Chapter 159 The Runaway Puppy
Wang Luyu looked at her and asked, "Mengqi, are you feeling unwell?"
"No," Zhou Mengqi said, "it's just... my legs are a little numb."
After a while, Zhou Mengqi became increasingly restless.
"Luyu..." Zhou Mengqi turned to look at Wang Luyu, "Are you sleepy?"
"Huh?" Wang Luyu shook her head. "I'm not sleepy. It's only this early."
"My computer's having some problems. We've pretty much finished discussing the script," Zhou Mengqi said to Yu Heng. "President, could you come upstairs with me and take a look at my computer?"
Yu Heng looked at her for two seconds, then nodded: "Okay, what's wrong with the computer?"
"The screen keeps going black?" Zhou Mengqi said. "I don't know where the connection is faulty."
"Let's go up and take a look," Yu Heng said, pulling his leg out of the kotatsu.
Zhou Mengqi followed her out. Her legs were a little weak, and she had to hold onto the table to steady herself.
"Are you guys going upstairs to fix the computer?" Wang Luyu asked. "Do I still need to go up?"
"No need," Zhou Mengqi said immediately, her tone a little fast. She paused for a moment, then added, "You can watch TV downstairs for a while. We'll come down when we're done."
Wang Luyu said "oh" without thinking much of it, picked up the remote and turned on the TV.
Zhou Mengqi turned and walked towards the stairs, with Yu Heng following behind her.
Once inside the bedroom, Yu Heng closed the door behind him, blocking out the light from the hallway.
Only one bedside lamp was on in the room, casting a dim, yellowish light.
Zhou Mengqi turned her back to Yu Heng and said that the computer screen was black, which was actually a pretty lame excuse.
Wang Luyu might believe it, but Yu Heng definitely wouldn't.
A pair of hands came around from behind and wrapped around her waist.
Yu Heng's body temperature wafted through her clothes, warmer than she had imagined.
Zhou Mengqi stiffened for a moment, then slowly relaxed and leaned into his arms.
"Is the computer really broken?" Yu Heng's voice was close to her ear, his breath brushing against her earlobe.
Zhou Mengqi's ears felt a little hot.
"No..." Zhou Mengqi replied, her voice a little weak.
She felt Yu Heng's chin rest on her shoulder, and then heard him chuckle softly.
The next second, she was turned around and before she could react, she was picked up and carried horizontally.
"Hey—" Zhou Mengqi exclaimed softly, her hand instinctively wrapping around his neck.
Yu Heng carried her a few steps and then threw her onto the bed.
The mattress was very soft, and she sank into it a little.
Yu Heng stood by the bed, looking down at her.
Zhou Mengqi lay there, her pajamas neckline slightly askew, revealing a small portion of her collarbone.
She looked at him, her eyelashes fluttering.
"So soon?" she asked, trying to keep her voice calm, but her tone still trembled slightly at the end.
Yu Heng leaned down, his hands supporting him on either side of her body.
"I'm just..." he said, "checking your computer's ports."
Zhou Mengqi was taken aback: "Interface?"
"Hmm." Yu Heng looked into her eyes. "A black screen is most likely due to a poor connection at the interface."
He paused, then a slight smile appeared on his lips.
"Like this, make it more secure," he said, "and it won't go black."
Zhou Mengqi took two seconds to react, then her face flushed red.
That's quite a direct way of putting it.
But she neither dodged nor refuted.
She looked at Yu Heng and bit her lower lip.
"Then... President, can you fix it?" she asked.
"Give it a try," Yu Heng said.
He lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Zhou Mengqi closed her eyes.
Two weeks.
She waited for two weeks.
While taking her medicine, she wondered when Yu Heng would come to find her.
But he never came.
She was a little flustered, so she took the initiative to bring it up at the dinner party today.
He's here now.
-
Both of them were covered in sweat.
The only sound in the room was panting.
He lay down next to her.
Zhou Mengqi turned to look at him.
Yu Heng also turned to look at her.
"Is the computer screen still black?" he asked.
Zhou Mengqi paused for a moment, then smiled.
"It's not dark anymore," she said.
"That's good," Yu Heng said.
The room was quiet, with only the sound of two people breathing.
Yu Heng suddenly spoke up: "Jasmine."
Zhou Mengqi's body stiffened for a moment.
She turned her head to look at him and said in a hoarse voice, "So you know."
"Hmm." Yu Heng's hand was still on her waist. "I found out after last time."
"Then why didn't you look for me?" Zhou Mengqi asked.
"If I were to reach out to you first," Yu Heng turned to look at her, "how would I ever expect you to reach out to me first?"
"Are you angry with me?" she asked softly.
"Shouldn't we?" Yu Heng retorted.
Zhou Mengqi pursed her lips; he was indeed angry.
"I guess so," she said. "That's why I recognized your voice during the interview and went back to confirm it repeatedly... Isn't that practically throwing myself at you?"
When she said this, her tone was both ingratiating and a little aggrieved.
After that club interview, she went back home and dug out her old phone, listening to Yu Heng's voice repeatedly to confirm that it was him.
"Don't think I don't know what you're thinking." Yu Heng stared at her. "You didn't tell me who you are because you wanted to... how come you still haven't recognized me after all this time?"
"You didn't recognize me in the first place," she said, her voice even softer. "You can't even remember my voice..."
Back then, they were entirely online; they never posted screenshots or videos of their tasks where their faces were shown, and Yu Heng only had his voice.
"Should I remember a runaway puppy?" Yu Heng said.
Zhou Mengqi bit her lip.
The year before the exam, she changed her phone number and even deleted her QQ and WeChat accounts.
"I was wrong." Zhou Mengqi snuggled closer to him. "I'm back now... President, don't be angry."
Her voice was soft and slightly hoarse.
Yu Heng didn't speak, and Zhou Mengqi waited for a while but didn't receive a response.
She looked up at him.
"Who?" Yu Heng suddenly asked.
Zhou Mengqi was stunned for a moment. Then she realized what she meant.
She curled her tongue, her voice softening, and even carrying a hint of coquettishness: "Master."
Yu Heng's lips twitched slightly.
He reached out and pinched her chin.
"So, why did you do that back then?"
Zhou Mengqi pursed her lips, looked at his face, and said with a hint of melancholy, "My parents divorced when I was very young. I lived with my father, and he remarried not long after. I didn't have much of a presence at home, and I didn't have much of a presence at school either. I was very introverted back then. Actually, it wasn't that I was introverted; I wanted to be outgoing, but I didn't have the courage or the confidence, so I was somewhat repressed..."
"So you came into contact with this?" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, I saw it in a novel and was immediately drawn to it, then I started to learn more about it and delve into it," Zhou Mengqi said. "I even started searching for it."
"And then?" Yu Heng asked.
"And then I met you!" Zhou Mengqi said. "I experienced its joy!"
"So," Yu Heng looked at her, "why did you leave again?"
"Because I felt that my life shouldn't continue like this, without any sense of existence, I wanted to change," Zhou Mengqi said, looking at him. "You gave me the courage."
"And then you turned around and left me?" Yu Heng stared at her.
