Chapter 53 Annihilation
Chapter 53 Annihilation
Forward, forward no matter what!
With his enhanced heart pumping blood at breakneck speed, Simon was rapidly closing in on the monster.
Three nuns with shields withdrew from the shield array; their shields were tattered, dented in several places, and their edges were chipped.
Without a word, they moved to the left in perfect unison, their shields snapping together to form a moving steel wall to Simon's left.
The fourth nun followed from the right, holding the Holy Hammer in her hand, the hammerhead still dripping blood. She followed Simond on the flank, the hammer held high on her shoulder, her eyes constantly watching Kong Houde, wary of the two evolved arms of the Hungry Angel.
The hungry angel raised its head, its emerald eyes fixed on the five gray figures approaching it, its pupils narrowing.
It seemed to understand something, its body suddenly straightened, its knees lifted off the ground, its arms tightened, and it lifted its entire body off the ground.
The hungry angel used its arms to forcefully break off the bone spurs from its own body!
Its left hand grasped the longest and thickest bone spur on the side of its right scapula, and with a twist of its wrist, the bone spur split in the middle. It held the broken spur in its hand as if it were holding a spear.
The broken thorns had jagged, sharp bone fragments, as sharp as saw teeth. It then drove its right hand to break off another, two, three thorns from the side of its ribs.
It gripped the three bone spikes in its hand at the same time, and then swung them horizontally with force!
Bone spikes swept across the open space in the center of the ruins, the sound of them tearing through the air as sharp as ripping cloth.
The nun at the front crouched down, and a bone spur swept across the top of her helmet, shaving off the filter of her respirator.
The three nuns holding shields raised their shields at the same time, and the bone spikes smashed into the shields, deforming them instantly and overturning the three sets of steam armor!
Simon had no shield, and when the bone spikes swept towards him, he only had time to turn to the side. The tip of the broken spike grazed his waist, tearing his robe and leaving a bloody gash on his side.
His body was thrown to the side by that enormous force, his feet leaving the ground, and he floated horizontally in the air for half a second.
A pair of hands caught him.
Flanye stood behind him, her vest mostly burned, revealing large patches of scalded skin that had not yet fully healed. Pink new flesh and deathly gray old skin were intertwined, like an unfinished oil painting. The charred ends of her hair hung down to her shoulders, still smoldering.
Her eyes were open, Simon's face reflected in her deep brown pupils.
"The boss sent me to protect you, so go forward with confidence." Her voice sounded a little weak, but her tone was still confident. "I'll cover your flanks!"
Andrei ran over from the other side of the ruins, his monk's robes billowing in the wind, the corners stained with black ash and blood.
His metal right arm hung at his side, while his left arm gripped the modified heavy pistol.
"Feed Simon, run forward with confidence!"
The three of them started at the same time.
Simon was in the front, Frani was to his left and behind, and Andrei was to his right and behind.
Bone spikes continued to fall, and the nuns cleared a path for them ahead.
After throwing down their deformed shields, the three nuns charged forward, risking their lives to draw the monster's attention to Simon and the others. The nun wielding the holy hammer leaped up, raising the hammer above her head, and aimed the hammerhead precisely at the hungry angel's knee, the hammerhead landing precisely in the same spot.
With its knees severely injured, the Hungry Angel swayed unsteadily, but at the same time, its gray arm slammed down, shaking the ground and sending a terrifying shockwave crashing down on the nuns once more.
It shrieked and swung its bone spikes again. The huge and sharp bone spikes were like crossbow bolts fired from a ballista. Each shot could slice off more than half of a person's body, but no one on the scene was afraid. No one took a step back. They continued to advance despite the deadly threat.
Suddenly, Flannery noticed a bone spur sticking out at an angle. Just then, the Hungry Angel's arm slammed down, and she instantly had an idea.
As a daring cave raider who lives on the edge, she was no pushover.
She leaped and leaped, making movements as nimble as a ballet dancer, tricking the monster into firing a bone spike from the Hungry Angel. She ran wildly along the bone spike that was stuck diagonally in the ground, and then leaped directly onto the monster's dangling arm.
Having been tempered by gunfire, its arms, as deadly weapons, could even smash through the armor of the Empire, but its joints were still made of cartilage.
The girl laughed wildly, firing both guns simultaneously, aiming the muzzles at her right elbow joint—bullets struck the crevice one after another, the bullets shattering in the joint socket, thorn fragments embedding themselves in the cartilage and the gaps in the bones.
The hungry angel's body began to swell again.
Starting from the abdomen, the grayish-white skin bulged outward like a balloon, the outline of the ribs protruded from under the skin, and the newly healed burn wounds were directly torn open, revealing dark red muscle fibers from the cracks. Each scarlet fiber was pulsating, constantly transporting energy and heat.
Blood vessels bulge from the surface of the muscle, and the skin color changes from grayish-white to dark red, and then from dark red to bright red.
"It will release steam again."
Simon keenly sensed that the Hungry Angel was about to release high-temperature steam again, intending to burn everyone within the last few dozen meters to death.
At this very moment, he was standing thirty meters away from the hungry angel...
He could feel the ground beneath his feet starting to heat up, his boots softening and becoming sticky, like stepping on melted asphalt.
The oxygen in the air was thinning, and with each breath, one could smell the sweet smell of burning and the pungent odor of sulfur.
He couldn't get any closer. If he took another step, the steam would burst out, and he wouldn't even have a chance to throw the can away.
Thirty meters—that was his final shooting range.
He gripped the urn containing the bones tightly; the dark red liquid inside sloshed about, and the grayish-white particles in the interlayer gleamed dimly in the morning light.
Emotions that didn't belong to him poured out of the jar and into his chest.
Pain, anger, despair...
He took a deep breath, the air in his lungs was scalding, like swallowing a mouthful of red-hot coals. He didn't cough, he gritted his teeth and suppressed the burning sensation!
It's now!
He threw the urn with all his might!
The glass jar slipped from my hand, tracing a low, flat arc in the air.
The can spun, and dark red liquid spilled from the mouth, resembling a string of broken blood beads in the hazy morning light.
The hungry angel is about to release steam; the ever-expanding muscles are contracting, the trachea is expanding, and the already red-hot blood vessels are pushing the last stored nutrients and energy into the lungs and chest cavity.
Its emerald eyes reflected the tiny jar that was so small to it, and the jar containing the bones that everyone present had been waiting for flew into its large mouth.
A flash of blue light...
When Simon opened his eyes again, he saw an astonishing scene.
The entire chest cavity, abdominal cavity, and pelvis of the hungry angel, from below the collarbone to the root of the thigh, all disappeared.
The skin, muscles, bones, internal organs, blood vessels, and nerves in those areas all disappeared, and two-thirds of the body was wiped out in an instant.
