Chapter 377 Masked Man

Chapter 377 Masked Man

[POV CHANGE]

As Jake and Ophelia approached the fleet of ships, alarms blared, and red lights flashed wildly across the smaller vessels.

[POWERFUL INTRUDERS SPOTTED!]

[POWERFUL INTRUDERS SPOTTED!]

[ACTIVATING ENERGY BARRIERS!]

[ENERGY BLASTERS ENGAGED!]

[INTRUDERS' POWER LEVEL IS IMMEASURABLE!]

Before their eyes, translucent barriers shimmered into existence around the ships, including Edgar's ship. Massive, planet-devouring energy cannons swiveled toward them, their tips glowing ominously with gathered power. Any sudden move forward would guarantee a devastating barrage of energy blasts.

"This is crazy... my blood is pumping," Jake muttered, adrenaline surging through him. His instincts screamed for battle, his mind already visualizing how to smash through the cannons and unleash his full power.

"Jake, please, don't do anything reckless," Ophelia warned, her tone firm yet calm. "Remember, we are the intruders. Edgar's systems must have detected our power levels and flagged us as threats. It's standard for Edgar to track the presence of powerful beings like us. He's probably here because of us in the first place." She shot him a glance, her senses acutely aware of the energy coursing through Jake's body.

As Ophelia finished talking, a formation of small, heavily armed ships hovered closer, their powerful energy beams blazing brightly, momentarily disrupting Jake's vision.

"IDENTIFY YOURSELVES!"

A robotic voice echoed from one of the ships as they surrounded the duo, their weapons locked and ready to fire. Ophelia raised her hands in the air, signaling no intent to fight. Jake, following her lead, did the same, though his reluctance was clear.

Moments later, one of the ships opened, and a human figure, clad in heavy mecha armor, flew toward them. The man gave a slight bow before speaking.

"There are other races," Ophelia corrected. "Humans just happen to make up the majority here. Edgar's factory and lab are in this ship, but other ships have far more diversity."

"Our boss believes humanity has the potential to become the best race out there because we're still evolving. That's why he lets humans handle most of his work," the mecha soldier interjected.

"So... your boss is a racist," Jake said with a smirk.

"No, he's not," the soldier replied. "He has his own morals. He wants the best for humanity, he wants us to stand on equal ground with other advanced races. In fact, he admires those races and hopes humanity can one day match them."

'I see...' Jake thought.

Soon, they arrived at a massive door that slid open automatically. Inside was a sprawling lab filled with robotic machines, shelves stocked with strange items, and cylindrical containers holding liquids of various colors. The air reeked of chemicals.

In a corner of the lab sat a man with broad shoulders and a mask that mirrored the structure of his face, moving with every expression he made. He was tinkering with a small gadget on his desk. Noticing Jake and Ophelia, he stopped, waved dismissively at the soldier, and gestured for him to leave.

"Long time no see, Ophelia..." Edgar said, his smile visible through the mask. His tone was calm but laced with amusement. "And you, Protoss... You awakened much earlier than I expected. Honestly, I only agreed to this meeting because of you. I knew you'd show up sooner or later."

'This guy... and his mask,' Jake thought, narrowing his eyes. He had seen Edgar once in high school, but now, standing before him, it felt like he was seeing the real Edgar Frost for the first time. Explore hidden tales at empire

"So, you're saying you don't want to see me?" Ophelia asked, her voice sharp and teeth clenched.

"Hahaha, don't be mad, witch," Edgar chuckled, rising from his chair. "You're just 'so' annoying, always nagging. Honestly, I'm surprised you haven't started nagging yet."

Ophelia glared at him but said nothing, her teeth still gritted as Edgar motioned for them to follow. Jake followed Edgar, while Ophelia trailed behind, fuming silently.

Soon, they entered a lavishly furnished apartment within the lab and took their seats.

"So,

" Edgar said, his tone casual as he leaned back, "why did you come to see me?"
